Google Places Suite Number Shuffle

Apr 10 2012 Published by under Google Places, Google Places Listing

It appears that Google in the USA are shuffling the Places Suite Number around to come into line with the rest of the world.  This has appears to have some annoying consequences.

It appears that Map Maker moderators are being instructed to add the Places suite no to the front of the address in Map Maker.  The aim is to bring the address in line with the rest of the world where the address is ordered in smallest to greatest component.

This may have been implemented in an algorithm but with un-foreseen and annoying results.

One change is to show you existing Places search listing with the Suite # at the front, presumably parsed out of the Places entry and then applied to the search result.

Scraped entries are now appearing in Google Places Local Maps and search where web directory data with a different business name is being scraped with #1234 in places of Suite 1234 in the search result and placing it at the front in Map Maker and the search listing.

In one case we are having entries for Closed offices scraped, presumably from web directory data for the Closed office, and rather than associating with the Closed listing creating a duplicate for the main office with #1234 at the front.

I advise you to check a search in Google Maps and also in Google Map Maker if implemented in your country.
