http://www.yext.com/pl/googleplaces-listing/index.html

Saludos,

Andrew

Google Reviews Disappeared

Jun 22 2012 Published by under Google Places Reviews

When you do a search you may find that your Google Reviews have Disappeared.

Your Google Reviews are kept in a separate data base from your Google Places entry built into a Maps Index Cluster.  So when you have an issue with the Places entry they may get disconnected.

This Help Forum post explains possible review issues:

https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!category-topic/business/technical-issue/mPz5bqu7ViM

If your Places entry is Suspended, in ‘Quiet Purgatory’ no option to see the entry in Maps and no statistics, Pending Review or in ‘Quiet Rejection’ at search time Google will serve up scraped search results from your other web data.

In the Blended search result Google will only show the strongest scraped listing mostly but can show more.  If the totals showing here are lower in total than you had before then try a search in Google Maps.  You may find more scraped listings here.

Once the Places entry issue has been resolved and it displays in a blended search result the scrapes will again associate with it and not show.  At the next Maps Index build the reviews should associate with the blended search result.  Some reviews may not come back because of newer anti-spam algorithms.

Google Places Customer Reviews

Google are collecting Reviews both from their own Places Pages now as well as third part review sites.

To leave a review via the big red box on your Google Places page a user has to create a Google Profile.  This can be created using any email account not just a gmail account.  You should not have more than one review made a day from your own in-store computer but you could sign a customer up to a Google Profile and then ask them to make a Review at home.

Googles algorithms are looking out for over optimized reviews.  Where you have a retail business you can have a QR code displayed for mobile phone users to easily leave reviews.  Android phone users will probably be logged into their gmail account anyway making it a painless proces to scan the QR code and leave a review.  Google will only pick up on one of these a day and any sudden spikes look suspicious to the algorithms.

Try to encourage satisfied customers to leave a review through the web directory site they used to find you.  Like any citation source google will rank you better for having a steady stream of reviews from a veriety of sources.

Google Places Reviews Disappear

Dec 19 2011 Published by under Google Places, Google Places Reviews

Every time there is an update your Google Places Reviews can disappear for a few days.

A recent Help Forum post about this:

http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Places/thread?tid=39b72a79101767a1&hl=en

However you can permanently loose reviews due to regular algorithmic checks:

If you have a wi-fi connection in your business or allow customers to use your computer to leave a review, even in their own google profile for one on your Places page or email for third party sites, google limit you to one a day.

If you have a ‘review’ campaign which causes a spike in reviews that will trigger the algorithm.

Where you have several locations one user leaving reviews at them all will look spammy, tho this can be caused by a competitor or disgruntled customer leaving serial negative reviews.  If its a competitor re-post each of the reviews they have left to their own Places page.

Also google change the review sites they scrape so all the reviews from that site can disappear.
